Today In MMA — Bellator 187 UFC Fight Night 120

Today in MMA, we’re just a few days from Bellator 187, taking place in Dublin, Ireland.  SBG will be featuring several of their fighters on the card at 3Arena.  AJ McKee was originally scheduled to take on James Gallagher in a highly anticipated match between the two young phenoms, but Gallagher withdrew due to a knee injury.  Brian Moore (10-5) will be squaring off against McKee (9-0), who will be making his 2nd international appearance for Bellator.  UFC Fight Night 120 is scheduled for this Saturday, November 11th, 2017 in Hampton Roads, VA with the feature main event pitting Dustin Poirier against Anthony Pettis.  Sage Northcutt will be returning to the octagon for the 1st time in almost a year.  He’ll be appearing on the preliminary card fighting Michel Quinones.  Northcutt has 2 losses in his last 3 bouts, both losses coming by way of chokes.

    • All the stars seem to be lining up for Conor McGregor to make his UFC return at UFC 219 and taking on Tony Ferguson, who is the interim champ.  The fight will be for the Lightweight championship.  No official announcement has been made, as of this posting.
    • Sage Northcutt’s lengthy absence and return to the octagon was for personal reasons.  He is a student at Texas A & M University and taking courses for a degree in Petroleum Engineering.
    • Georges St-Pierre continued his championship belt giveaway.  GSP shared via Twitter, that he was gifting his belt to Victor Zilberman, the head coach of the Montreal Wrestling Club.  GSP has either won or defended a championship belt now 13 times.

    • Matt Brown (20-16, 13-10), fighting Diego Sanchez at UFC Fight Night 120 in Virginia, has openly stated that he will be retiring after the fight, win, lose or draw.  The two fighters have a combined 75 fights between them, but have never fought each other.
    • I know we showed this yesterday, but it’s gotta be one of the best knockouts of the year.  It’s that good.

  • In unrelated news to the world of mma, but quite relevant and somber, Roy Halladay died in a single passenger plane crash in The Gulf Of Mexico.  Halladay was 40 years old and had a stellar career as a pitcher for several MLB teams.  He will, almost assuredly, be inducted into baseball’s Hall Of Fame posthumously.
